One year on we return to Kerr Lake for a few hectic sessions spread over a 14 day period.

New baits, new rigs and a totally new approach ...........

So, did we beat the Catfish ?

As you'll remember from last years diary, which is still live via the links below to refresh your memory, our first trip was plagued by Catfish. They ate just about everything we threw at them from strawberry boilies to marshmallows and anything remotely resembling meat flavours just drove them to a frenzy.

So we have spent the best part of a year trying new baits and rigs, many of which have been tested on European Catfish lakes and rivers, to try and solve the problem. Our first trip yielded 10 times as many Cats as Carp but this time we netted 40 Carp and only 2 Cats on the main three rod set-up !!! To say the least we are delighted with the results. Just to make sure the Cats were still around we switched baits and approach on various occasions and the Cats responded within minutes.

The rigs are easily made yourself, the baits are unusual in the way they have been prepared but not expensive and for the most part are readily available. We have more work to do as there are much bigger Carp out there, but for a short trip to try the new tactics it was an excellent result. We will be returning in the Spring for an attempt at the State record but for now we hope you'll enjoy this latest report on the methods used. We will also give you more details of the surrounding area, the refurbished cabin we stayed at as well as lots of other info that should help you build a bigger picture of this wonderful location.

Before we begin I must thank our hosts and all those we met ........ it was a genuinely great trip and it has changed many of our views on the American attitudes towards angling in general and given us a better insight into the whole scene at Kerr. Many thanks to everyone !
