EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT FISHING THE AMAZING KERR LAKE AND YOUR HOLIDAY IN NORTH CAROLINA, CONTINUED

Q : Do I need a fishing permit ?
A : Yes and don't fish without it. They are readily available from a variety of outlets in the local towns. They cost around £20 and you can fish wherever you like except for any designated wildlife areas. You can also use as many rods as you wish but you will only need two. The licence is technically valid for North Carolina but you can use it in neighbouring Virginia as well. Gaston, Virginia, is the other side of the dam and has some stunning fish. Again, refer to the fishing links as they become available.

Q : Will there be many other anglers ?
A : From the bank side you'll be hard pushed to see any and will certainly never have to fight for a swim ! There are varying numbers of boats and the occasional Bass tournament but the place is huge by European standards and it is never too busy. While we were there we didn't come across a single angler bank-side and there were only a few boats at the weekend ..... and they were a long way off. There are just so many places that beg to be fished you'll never be bothered by anyone.

Q : What about bugs and things that bite ?
A : This is a subject covered in the ' Do's & Don'ts section. The links will be live in a day or so. It is important that you read about what to expect so take the time to browse through and you'll be fine.

Q : I've heard that many of the houses and cabins have a No Smoking policy, is this true ?
A : To a large extent yes. Most properties do have outside porches etc which can be used and of course if you decide to camp out it is not relevant. We can locate properties for smokers but they are more difficult to find. It is a situation that we found a little odd as there are tobacco plantations everywhere and the cost of a packet of cigarettes is cheap enough for even the poorest on the planet to kill themselves with ease , perhaps it's more to do with fire insurance. Incidentally, just about the whole 800 mile+ perimeter is unspoilt woodland so don't be stupid and set fire to the place ! You will be astounded at how clean the place is kept so please respect the area and make sure that you don't leave any litter anywhere. There are plenty of bins etc so there is no excuse to be untidy. And please ....... don't leave discarded hooks and line anywhere. Many of the European, particularly British, venues are a disgrace so please look after this place as it's a real gem.

Q : Is the food expensive ?
A : Very definitely NO ! The supermarkets are really cheap, as are the takeaways, local restaurants and above all the fuel stations. We were paying less than £ 1.25 per gallon for unleaded and everyone we talked to were moaning about it !!!! So don't worry about renting a big V8 like the one in our pictures, it's still cheaper than running a mini in the UK.

Q : How far from the airport is Kerr Lake ?
A : It's around an hours drive from Raleigh terminal. We can arrange your transport though so no worries there.

Q : If I booked a holiday, how many extras are there on top of the cost ?
A : Just your food etc. You let us know exactly want you want and we'll give you a price. We always spend time talking things through with you so you'll know exactly where you stand. If we ever got it wrong we would cover the difference.

Q : How secure is the holiday, so many travel companies seem unreliable or unexpectedly go bankrupt.
A : We are not a travel company. Our function is to arrange everything for you so it's all booked via established airlines and various car and boat hire companies. We have spent almost two years and a great deal of money establishing all the contacts needed to make this a fantastic holiday. Without doubt we know more about Kerr and the surrounding areas than most of the locals, and that includes species knowledge. ! This place is virtually unvisited by European anglers and it had taken some time to really get to grips with all it has to offer. In summary, all the guarantees that each of the respective companies such as British Airways, AA etc have are in place so your holiday is as safe as it can ever be. What's more, we have the added security of being able to adapt to any situation and find alternatives in the unlikely event that a component part of the holiday went wrong.

Q : How much deposit is required and when is the balance due ?
A : There is a great deal of work to do on your behalf and we will require a 25% deposit once we have talked it through with you and you give us the go ahead to proceed. This deposit is not refundable if you cancel. However, we are fully aware of how life can play some strange and unexpected tricks on even the most cautious people so we will always do all we can to rearrange your holiday if you can't make it. The balance is due 28 days before departure.
You will receive a full and detailed itinerary with loads of extra information within one week of booking your holiday.

Q : Do you have any brochures ?
A : Yes we do, with over 30 pages of information either on CD or hard copy. These contain many more tips on fishing the venue etc and how to locate the Carp and other species. However, they are very expensive to produce and contain details of fish movements etc that have taken us a great deal of time to research. As a result it is just not viable to post them out to every enquiry as we would need many hundreds. These brochures are available however but please contact us direct via 01409-211643 or e-mail admin@supafish.com to talk things over with us first in order to ensure that they go to genuine enquiries. The point of these holidays is to provide the purchaser with excellent value and we see no reason why these costs should rise due to time wasters. Why should you pay for them ?

Q : I fish for a variety of species and do not enjoy Carp fishing, preferring mainly match and predator angling. Is Kerr right for me ?
A : Easy answer is that Kerr is an anglers paradise whatever your preferences. The range of species is quite stunning and will appeal whatever your skill level.

Q: OK, fishing's great, but what about the wife and kids ?
A : They'll love it ! There is so much more to do from water sports to shopping malls, from scenery to entertainments. They'll even love the fishing. My daughter hates anything to do with fish unless they are wrapped in breadcrumbs and yet she not only fell in love with the place but also caught her first Catfish within five minutes of throwing in a bait. As for the wife, it doesn't come much better than spending a moonlit evening drifting along a deserted creek in warm calm weather, the forest noises in the background, maybe wine and succulent food, lights from the pontoon boat mirrored in the water ( make sure you have a bait trailed out the back though 'cos the night fishing's brilliant )...... or there's always shopping I guess ! Either way, they just won't want to leave.
