New American Carp Diary
carp fishing, carp baits, carp boilies, carp fishing, carp baits, carp. Articles on Carp fishing, Carp behaviour, Carp tactics etc. etc. fill a massive array of magazines and videos but, with no offence intended to the authors, they are almost all based on bank side observations and, at best, educated guesswork and that is the fatal flaw that permeates throughout the Carp fishing media. I wonder how much time on the bank is actually spent hooking and landing fish. If the ‘expert’ managed one fish every three hours and took 10 mins to land it that gives an average success rate of less than 6%. Subtract the inevitable blanks and the odd couple of days waiting for a single fish and the percentage is probably nearer 4%......... that’s a total failure rate of at least 96%. Hardly worthy of the extensive coverage the established views and opinions are given is it?
Yet the normal Carp angler, for specimens or just pleasure, not only reads and absorbs this stuff but then spends what little time he or she can manage on the bank following advice that at the very best is far off target. Then there is the financial aspect to consider, Carp fishing can be an expensive business and there are a host of manufacturers, and publishers for that matter, that just love to take the anglers money. It is after all a multi-million pound industry and misinformation can be a real money spinner.
Until now the only way to improve the chances of catching Carp and all the other species is by experience, learning from the ‘experts’ and generally making note of the often expensive and disappointing failures that all too frequently occur.
I guess you can rightly say “ okay smart ass, what makes Supafish so bloody special? ” A justifiable comment, especially when we are so critical of almost everyone else ! To put it simply, we have access to unique data that has taken many years to accumulate, not from the bank side but from underwater observations. We don’t just sit on the bank and guess because we can actually see what the fish really are doing across a wide range of venues both in the UK and Europe with further info from the USA now coming on-line
If you blank was it because of the bait, presentation, location or maybe the fish were not even feeding.? How can you or any ‘expert’ actually know what the hell is going on let alone state with any confidence why something works or why it doesn’t? If you were aiming at such a ridiculously low hit rate of less than 4% you would probably have just as much action if you were to lob bricks in at random and wait to hit your desired quarry on the head !
The knowledge we have gathered is quite unique and destroys many of the widely held myths that abound amongst experts and beginners alike, whether it involves match fishing, specimen or general angling. This industry, sport or whatever you like to call it is very wide of the mark indeed, astonishingly so.
What are we going to do about it?... Nothing, why should we. It is up to the individual concerned to make the effort to really learn just what the fish are doing. We have the information, we do not even charge for it, but we are fussy who we give it to for obvious reasons. We have after all spent a fortune gathering and analyzing the data.
